A group of four of us set out on a beautiful day. After a short drive, just past Nelligen, we started by descending a very steep but open snig track down to Lyons Creek. This was followed by a walk up the shallow creek past beautiful pools to a small set of cascades for morning tea.
After making such good time we set off again feeling confident of making the waterfall, which was supposedly only 1.9km upstream. There were some very nice open stretches of creek lined by sassafras-coachwood warm temperate rainforest. However, there were also many spots with massive tree falls across the narrow creek valley making progress very slow. We had lunch, still about 500m short of falls and decided discretion was the better part of valour and exited up a steep ridgeline with dense undergrowth, but easy going compared to the creek below, and out onto Lyons Road and the cars.
We didn’t make our target destinations but it was still a nice walk and I’m sure we will try again.
