It was billed as a 10km all downhill walk but the 7 walkers who walked it agreed that undulating was by far the better description.
The day was warm in the Bay but by the time we reached Monga Mountain, having dropped a car at the end point, the temperature had plummeted, it was drizzling and we were in fog. Steve had gone to the take off point the day before to camp, so when the 6 walkers from the Bay came across a half metre diameter fallen tree, which was blocking the road 3km before the take off point, there was nothing for it but too leave the cars, climb over the tree and walk the 3 km uphill through spectacular forest to meet Steve.
Once we met Steve at the rendezvous, we called National Parks to see if we could get any help moving the tree as it prevented Steve from getting out later in the day. Within 10 minutes we had a return call from Ian at the Braidwood National Parks Office. We figured he was keen to get out of the office as he agreed to come to our rescue.
We completed the 10km walk back to the car that was to take the drivers back to Monga Mountain and the lead cars. Luckily Jennys car fitted all 7 of us in and we took off to see if Ian had moved the tree and Steve could get home or stay another night. Thanks to the National Parks the tree had been cut into pieces and the road was clear.
It was agreed that it was a fabulous walk and all the better for the adventures along the way.
