Ten club members set out to visit the orchids on the granite outcrops along the creek line on the Spring Creek Firetrail. For five members this was their first visit to the site so expectations were high as the walk leader had talked them up pretty well. Fortunately we were rewarded with some magnificent blooms.
Recent rains meant the creek was flowing over the granite rocks which added to the magic of the site when we stopped for lunch. These features more than made up for the groans on the hills back to the cars. Last year the walk leader led the same walk and provided an interesting snake experience as we watched two male red-bellied blacks fight for the unseen female. This year we had to settle for an enormous death adder sitting quietly on the side of the track in the sun. I am still amazed Martin saw the snake given its colours blending with the bush.
